This week, as part of our Our Family theme, we found a special way to bring each child’s family into our classroom. ❤️
Each preschooler used a photo of their own family as inspiration while painting at the easel. I chose easel painting for this activity because the children truly love to paint, and it gave them such a wonderful opportunity for creative expression. Rather than trying to make their artwork look a certain way, they were able to look at the people they love and express what they saw and felt through their own colors, brushstrokes, and ideas. 🎨
We also made another copy of each child’s family photo and laminated it for our block center. The children used blocks to build homes for their families, then brought their family pictures into their creations. 🏠 During circle time, we shared the photos and gave each child an opportunity to talk about their family.
Activities like these help children understand that every family is special while strengthening language, creativity, social-emotional development, and a sense of belonging in our preschool community. ❤️
